DIRECTOR OF DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION

With a 30+ year career background in architecture, construction, and real estate development, Jeb brings his relentless entrepreneurial spirit to the Cabin Co enterprise. The cabin company exists because he wanted the cabin in his minds’ eye that did not exist; modern, beautifully detailed, and robustly constructed to last in harsh environments. He has a habit of getting into the details a bit too deep, but the cabin design, quality and build process is the beneficiary of his passionate enthusiasm.

Belinda Thornburg, Founder

Her horse kicked her in the head
when she was a kid, and
weirdly it made her way smarter
than the rest of us.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Belinda brings creativity to both the physical design elements of the Cabin, as well as the deal making it takes to start up and run the financial side of a small business. With a multi-faceted background in Design, Real Estate, HR, and Finance, she is our go to business wiki. We like to say that Belinda has an honorary MBA, and Law Degree from the “school of life!” Those chops are earned, and critical to our success, but what she really loves is experiencing the delight of our customers when they see and experience our cabins for the first time.

& 3 dogs

SHOP CARPENTER

Kasey has a degree in English from WSU and experience as a high school English and Drama teacher. He’s actually very low drama at our shop… and has a natural curiosity for all things construction related. With his smiling can-do attitude, he’s proven to be a fast learner and attentive to quality craftsmanship. He says his extensive American Traditional tattoo collection doesn’t have deep existential meaning, but we think there might be more there than he’s saying.

Justin VanDeBrake

Not one for even the humble brag, as a two time captain for WSU’s baseball team Justin is a strong choice for your first pick on a team sport pickup game. #GOCOUGS

SHOP CARPENTER

If you need a job done right, put it on Justin’s list. A local to Yakima Valley, his no nonsense but all smiles attitude makes him a popular addition to our shop team - dialing in finished surfaces inside and out of the cabins. Justin also leads our efforts to responsibly manage materials at the factory.

Across 25 years of creative collaboration, our design has always been in conversation with our own need to connect with too often neglected parts of ourselves. All our years, projects, and learnings have led us to this moment and this concept: the cabin as the ultimate expression of meeting our basic needs simply, while focusing the design on fostering a quality of being that is so hard to come by in the rest of our overstuffed lives.

With this in mind, we began developing a hospitality concept, but could not find what we were looking for—elegant, prefabricated cabins made in the US and built to endure whatever our Pacific Northwest climate throws at us.

This led us to wonder, “Who else is looking for something like this?” And just like that, Tieton Cabin Company was born.

Mighty Tieton

We needed a home for the company taking shape in our minds. We were drawn to Tieton, tucked into the orchard covered folds of the Cascade Range’s eastern flank, on the western edge of central Washington’s fertile Upper Yakima Valley. Tieton is rich in culture, community, creativity, delicious apples, pears, and cherries and—making it an attainable dream for a startup like ours—an abundance of old fruit packing warehouses waiting to be reimagined and revitalized.

Tieton Cabin Company calls the creative business hub “Mighty Tieton Warehouse”  home. With mosaicists, bakers, woodworkers, book binders, sound artists, makers and creatives of all types for neighbors, we couldn’t have chosen a more inspiring place to make ours. We love inviting our customers to Mighty Tieton to experience this creative energy firsthand, meet the team, and witness their cabin coming to life!

North Star

Beauty has been our North Star as we’ve grown Tieton Cabin Company. For us, beauty is not a subjective experience of aesthetics, but an objective achievement of the design process, where all aspects of both form and function converge in a design that needs nothing more and nothing less.

Rather than focus our efforts on obtaining a sustainability accolade, we hewed to beauty. We believe beauty derives from the core attributes of quality, durability, and efficiency. We think of these attributes as the DNA of sustainable design, and their pursuit is far more powerful to us than an industry stamp of approval. The proof is in the performance, and we’ve channeled our collective passion, creativity, and wealth of skills and technical knowledge in construction and fabrication to this end.

Hearts, Hands + Minds

As designers, our founders are uncompromising in their commitment to excellence. In the development of this cabin concept, not a single detail escaped careful consideration, and nothing was rushed. We have poured our hearts and expertise into Tieton Cabin Company, and we can proudly call the result our best work yet.

As a team of artistic craftspeople, we build these cabins with our hands; as avid tech and design enthusiasts, we leverage our minds and the most advanced systems and processes available to make Tieton Cabins efficiently and precisely.
